COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION TOURISM VILLAGE IN IMPLEMENTING COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT TO IMPROVE WELL-BEING (STUDY AT TAPOS-1 TOURISM VILLAGE, BOGOR, WEST JAVA)

Abstract

Tapos-1 Tourism Village is one of the tourism village in Bogor area, West Java. This village has natural resources such as artificial lake in the center of camping ground in the middle of pine forest. It also has a megalithic site at the tip of the hilltop. This article focuses on how to involve the local community in the management of tourism. The objective of this research is to understand the process of community empowerment through the development of tourism village. This study used a qualitative approach. The techniques employed in collecting data are observation, interview, and collecting data through secondary sources. The research has led to the finding that the process of community empowerment through the development of tourism village in Tapos-1 village consists of four stages. Besides that, the findings also highlight the problems in empowering community, such as: the problems that villagers found in maintaining their culture. Another aspect that had been highlighted in this article is the participation of the community which play an important role and a prerequisite in developing community based tourism. From the finding, it was found that the lack of community participation and community awareness became a burden in developing tourism object in their area.
